Geoffrey B. McCullough joined Murphy, Hesse, Toomey & Lehane as Senior Counsel in May 2006.

Mr. McCullough's practice is concentrated on civil litigation; providing proactive, straightforward counsel and representation, where success is achieved through personal attention, hard and well-thought work that is driven toward positive resolution.  With substantial experience in a wide area of legal matters, especially those arising out of the workplace, from government investigations to litigation, Mr. McCullough concentrates his practice on meeting the varied needs of businesses and individuals.  His practice is also concentrated on representing higher educational institutions in and out of court.

He has significant trial experience and has appeared in state and federal trial and appellate courts across the Commonwealth.  He is admitted to practice in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts, and all Massachusetts courts.  He is a skilled negotiator who has secured significant settlements for the defense in a variety of legal actions, including matters involving non-compete, contract, and constitutional law.

Mr. McCullough was in-house counsel in the Office of the President of the University of Massachusetts and its 50,000-student and 15,000-employee state-wide system.  There he counseled and represented administrators and employees, winning positive verdicts and obtaining successful results primarily in employment, contract, civil rights, and general higher education matters.  His trial record resulted in many verdicts of no liability for the defense.  He also has extensive experience in administrative practice and alternative dispute resolution.

Mr. McCullough began his career in Washington as counsel on Senator Alan K. Simpson's Judiciary Committee Staff, and went on to become a law clerk to the U.S. District Court Chief Judge of the Northern District of West Virginia, Robert E. Maxwell.

Mr. McCullough was an assistant U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of Florida, where he began in the appellate section.  Mr. McCullough briefed criminal and civil matters and successfully argued numerous cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.  While working in the asset forfeiture section, he developed a successful trial record and was honored for having secured the most significant results in asset recoveries.  He completed the Department of Justice trial practice program and provided legal training to federal law enforcement agents.

Mr. McCullough is a graduate of Colorado College and Vermont Law School.  He is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and its labor and employment section and the Boston Bar Association and its college and university law section.  He is a member of the Boston Athenaeum, the Massachusetts Historical Society, and is a member of the board for the South Shore YMCA.  Mr. McCullough lives in Hingham with his wife Signe and their four children.
